In this beginners calligraphy workshop, students will choose to focus on either pointed pen or broad-edged letterforms. The emphasis will be on learning how the calligraphic tools form letter strokes and in turn how these strokes create different calligraphic alphabets. Well known pointed pen calligraphy includes Copperplate, Spencerian and modern calligraphy, while broad-edge calligraphy is known for Italic, Roman capitals, blackletter, and Fraktur. By the end of the workshop participants will have learned the basics of calligraphy while focusing on one alphabet of their choice.
