Carter Burden Gallery Announces New Exhibitions by Re-Emerging Older Artists
Three new exhibitions featuring the unique artwork of five re-emerging older artists will be on display from May 4th-25th at the Carter Burden Gallery located at 548 West 28th Street #534 in Manhattan. The Carter Burden Gallery showcases the vibrant, cutting-edge and transformative art that is the product of the unique cultural wealth possessed by older professional artists.
Sight Lines in the East Gallery features photographer John Isaac and sculptor Elaine Lorenz. Isaac presents photographs of wildlife and nature, abstracted by composition and detail, and captured as one single image. Lorenz presents abstract sculptures influenced by the world’s vast variety of seedpods and their expected promise for the future, with a recent focus on the dried and empty shells of once burgeoning, ripe and luscious flora.
The Story Teller in the West Gallery features Liz Curtin and painter Michael Fair. Curtin unearths ephemera and found objects in her mixed media works to tell a story and speak to the history of time and place. Fair presents recent paintings inspired by spiritualty, perseverance, and journeys, including three-dimensional sculpture-like paintings consisting of layers of thin tubular strands of acrylic paint applied with medical implements.
On the Wall features an installation by Irmari Nacht. In this interactive installation, 100 discarded book jackets are given a new life to encourage the viewer to think in a conceptual way about books as a repository of thoughts, ideas, and emotions, and as a visual, tactile experience.
