The Center for Experimental Humanities Presents: Senses of Style With Jeff Dolven and Wayne Koestenbaum

Do you sound like yourself today? Or like someone else? Like who? How can you tell? Is this some kind of movement? Are you a part of it? What time is it in here, anyway? And why are you reading this—are these your kinds of questions, is this your kind of event; will the people there be your kind of people?

Such problems will be hard to avoid when Jeff Dolven and Wayne Koestenbaum take up the self-divided, trivial, indispensable concept of style. The discussants will talk about Dolven’s new book, Senses of Style (Chicago 2018), and also respond to a suite of stylistic provocations curated by Sina Najafi, editor-in-chief of Cabinet magazine. Sir Thomas Wyatt and Frank O’Hara guest star.

Refreshments will be provided and copies of the book will be available for sale. Audience members are encouraged to show up in their style.

Jeff Dolven is Professor of English at Princeton University and an editor-at-large at Cabinet. He is the author of Scenes of Instruction (Chicago, 2007), a study of sixteenth-century poetry, and Speculative Music (Sarabande, 2013), a book of poems, as well as the recent and hasty Take Care (Cabinet, 2017).

Wayne Koestenbaum is a poet, critic, and painter, and a Distinguished Professor at the CUNY Graduate Center. His many books include, most recently, Camp Marmalade (Nightboat, 2018), Notes on Glaze (Cabinet, 2016), The Pink Trance Notebooks (Nightboat, 2015), and My 1980s and Other Essays (FSG, 2013).
