En Español: Think & Create the Artist Book

During this Spanish speakers’ workshop, students will learn how to think about and create an artist book from a conceptual perspective. The workshop will start with a brief exploration of what an artist book is, followed by a demonstration of a simple accordion bookbinding structure and the technique of monoprints on plexiglass(a form of printmaking that produces a unique print). Students will be able to create their own artist book using their hands and a Vandercook press by the end of the workshop. No prerequisites needed.

Durante este taller para hispanohablantes, enseñaré a la clase cómo pensar y crear un libro de artista desde una perspectiva conceptual. El taller comenzará con una breve exposición sobre “qué es un libro de artista” seguido de una demostración de la estructura de encuadernación en acordeón y la técnica de monograbado sobre acrílico (una forma de grabado que produce una impresión única). Los estudiantes podrán crear un libro con contenido utilizando sus manos y una prensa de prueba en un día. No hay requisitos previos para este taller.

About the Instructor: 

María Verónica San Martín  is a Chilean-born, New York-based artist working in printmaking, artist books, installations, sculpture, and performance art. She was a studio artist at The Whitney Museum ISP during 2017-2018 and a scholar at the Center for Book Arts. She has had exhibitions at The Museum of Memory and Human Rights, Chile; BRIC Arts Media, NY; The Cantor Art Center, Stanford University, CA; The Bayerische Staatsbibliothek, Germany. Her work is in the collections of The Pompidou Centre, The New York Public Library, and The Walker Museum, among others.

Sobre la Instructora:

María Verónica San Martín es una artista nacida en Chile y establecida en Nueva York. Trabaja con grabado, libros de artista, instalaciones, escultura y artes escénicas. Ha trabajado como artista residente en el Whitney Museum y el Center for Book Arts. Ha exhibido su trabajo en el Museo de Memoria y Derechos Humanos, Chile; BRIC Arts Media, NY; The Cantor Art Center, Stanford University, CA; The Bayerische Staatsbbibliothek, Alemania. Su trabajo se encuentra en las colecciones del Pompidou Centre, La Biblioteca Pública de Nueva York (NYPL), el Museo Walker, entre otros.
