Ensemble Pi Presents Marianna Martines: A Legacy of Her Own

All but forgotten today, Marianna Martines (1744-1812) was one of the greatest composers of her time. The acclaimed socially conscious Ensemble Pi restores Martines’ place among her male counterparts in this theatrical concert featuring her music performed alongside classical favorites by her 18th-century Viennese contemporaries, including Haydn and Mozart. The evening will feature instrumental and vocal works, including arias which were never recorded before. The musical performances will also be framed by narrated scenes between celebrated opera librettist Pietro Metastasio (who mentored and supported Martines) and painter Anton von Aaron (who did her portrait) to give context to the composer’s life and work.

The evening will feature Sarah Moulton Faux (soprano); Gon Halevi (Countertenor); Idith Meshulam and Daniel Gortler (piano); Matt Gray (director and narrator); Deborah Moulton (writer).
