Ethics in Film – Her (2013)

herSuggested donation: $5, includes snacks and beverages

Moderator: Chris Everett

Directed by Spike Jonz

Theodore Twombly is an introverted man who is having problems moving on following his divorce. He eventually falls for Samantha, his artificially intelligent operating system. Because Samantha is designed to cater to Theodore’s needs, she falls for him as well. Some of the many questions this film raises are whether Theodore’s relationship with Samantha is preventing him from having a more satisfying relationship with a human, whether a human and a computer can truly be emotionally bonded, and what Samantha’s rapid evolution will bring.
