In 2002, Oakland A’s general manager Billy Beane crafted a new kind of major league baseball draft class. For the next 15 years, Tabitha Soren, who is married to author Michael Lewis, followed the class made famous by “Moneyball,” chronicling with her camera the vagaries of the players’ lives on and off the field.
Some of the subjects, like Nick Swisher and Joe Blanton, have gone on to become well-known, respected players at the highest level of the game. Some left baseball to pursue other lines of work, such as selling insurance and coal mining. Others have struggled with poverty and even homelessness.
Accompanied by five linked stories by novelist Dave Eggers, “Fantasy Life” explores the enduring spirit of this quintessential American dream of making it to the major leagues.
Join Tabitha Soren, as we celebrate her work and the book release of “Fantasy Life.”
RSVP required to attend.
Limited autographed copies of “Fantasy Life” will be available for purchase. Let us know if you’d like to reserve one in advance.
