Forests Adrift: A Conversation on the Future of Northeastern Forests

Join us for a virtual book chat with Cary Institute of Ecosystem Studies’ forest ecologist Dr. Charlie Canham. He will be discussing his new book, Forests Adrift: Currents Shaping the Future of Northeastern Trees, ‘in conversation’ with Cary President Dr. Joshua Ginsberg. There will be ample time for audience Q&A.

Discover the history of northeastern forests, their resilience in the face of change, and threats that will shape their future. Topics to be covered include: how northeastern forests have changed since the arrival of European settlers, insight into current conditions, and science-based forecasting on how forests will adapt in response to logging, fire suppression, disease, air pollution, invasive species, and climate change.

A senior scientist at Cary Institute, Canham received his PhD from Cornell University. His current board positions include: the Adirondack Chapter of the Nature Conservancy, the Adirondack Land Trust, the Adirondack Council, the Great Mountain Forest, and the Northern Forest Atlas Foundation. In 2019, he was recognized for his distinguished service to the Ecological Society of America.

This event is free and all are welcome to tune in. Registration is required. Forests Adrift can be purchased online from Yale University Press; Merritt Bookstore in Millbrook has a limited number of copies on hand.
