French Literature in the Making: Catherine Millet (in French)

CATHERINE MILLET is a French writer, curator, art critic, and founder and editor of the prestigious magazine Art Press, which focuses on modern and contemporary art. She is the author of over a dozen books of art criticism, including Yves Klein; Le Critique d’art s’expose; L’Art contemporain en France; and Dali et moi. Millet was the curator of the French section of the Biennale de Sao Paulo in 1989 and of the French Pavilion at the 1995 Venice Biennale. She is best known as the author of the 2001 memoir La Vie sexuelle de Catherine M. The book was described by Edmund White as “the most explicit book about sex ever written by a woman.” In 2008 she published Jour de Souffrance, translated into English as Jealousy: The Other Life of Catherine M., followed by Une enfance de rêve (Prix La Coupole, 2014).

OLIVIER BARROT is a journalist, author, and television personality who plays a prominent role in French cultural life. He hosts the daily literary program Un livre un jour on France 3 and TV5. He also directs a series of public discussions with actors of the Comédie Française. His most recent books are L’Ami posthume (2008), Ciné Club (2010), Le Fils Perdu (2012), La Revue Blanche (2012), Un livre un jour, un livre toujours (2014), and Mitteleuropa (2015). He is in his ninth year of hosting French Literature in the Making at NYU, which inspired his Paris series of conversations with playwrights, “Mots en scène.”
