George Gershwin International Music Competition
The George Gershwin Int’l Music Competition celebrates exceptional young artists in four categories: piano, voice, string instruments, and winds/brass. Founded in 2013 by pianist/composer Michael Bulychev-Okser, the Competition will host young musicians from 20 countries around the world, from Viet Nam to Venezuela, playing Gershwin, Mozart, Chopin, and others. Judges include radio’s Robert Sherman; violinist and professor at Manhattan School of Music Albert Markov; Metropolitan Opera soprano Olga Makarina; Richard Glazier, pianist/musicologist who played for Ira Gershwin and hosted the PBS Series on Gershwin, and more. Rounds take place Oct. 26-Oct. 30 at The Estonian House, 243 E. 34th St.; October 31 at National Opera Center, 330 7th Avenue; Finals will be held November 2-5, culminating in the Awards Presentation and Concert, at Baruch P.A.
