What Good Will Really Is!

Featured in this holiday event will be an excerpt from Eli Siegel’s stirring lecture “There Are Power & Christmas,” about Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol, with scenes from the novel. There will be holiday songs, including “Little Drummer Boy,” Hanukkah, Oh, Hanukkah,” as well as the Hallelujah Chorus from Handel’s Messiah. Presented dramatically too will be Myra Kelly’s moving short story of 1904, “A Christmas Present for a Lady.”

In “There Are Power & Christmas,” Eli Siegel, poet, critic, and founder of Aesthetic Realism, said:
“We’re celebrating Yuletide by talking about power, the thing that every person wants to have and use rightly. Authentic good will is the greatest power. Being able to show something like good will is as easy as falling off an ego log. But having it really, being able to be kind, is the highest power.”
