The “magical” Governors Island – a 10-min. $1.50 ferry ride from Lower Manhattan – houses galleries in the summer in converted homes.  You’ll visit 7 galleries showing contemporary painting, sculpture, video and photography.  Take the 1-, R-, or W-train to South Ferry/ Whitehall St. Stations, then go to the left of the Staten Island Ferry to board the Governors Island Ferry.  Arrive no later than 1:10 PM to board the ferry that leaves at 1:20 PM sharp.  Just after disembarking, meet the tour director next to the Restrooms sign.
