The Great American Casket Company: An Outdoor Roving Immersive Theater Experience in Green-Wood

For four weeks in June, the Green-Wood Historic Fund, BREAD Arts Collective, and Modern Rebel will present “The Great American Casket Company,an outdoor, roving immersive theater experience created exclusively by BREAD Arts Collective for Green-Wood Cemetery, a National Historic Landmark.

Every Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday night in June, theatergoers will cross over into the world of Green-Wood Cemetery with the fine young men and women of the fictional Great American Casket Company as their guides. After a friendly presentation by the casket company representatives, theatergoers will soon begin to reflect on much more than their preferred style of coffin for when the time comes. With Green-Wood’s magnificent landscape as a featured player, theater goers will journey deep into the center of the cemetery as the sun sets across its historic grounds. Interacting with the actors, they become a part of the show as they respond to what they’re learning and experiencing. By the end of the journey, many will have a new perspective on their own legacies, and at the same time, an entirely new set of questions.

After the show, guests can unpack their experiences with fellow explorers, cast, and crew at a torch-lit reception under the stars, designed by Modern Rebel, Brooklyn-based alternative event planners.

Every Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday (June 2-26, 2016)

A post-performance reception will follow.
