James G. White, Leader

Ethical Culture without ethical action? Impossible! Felix Adler grounded his new movement on the affirmation that each human being must be attributed worth and dignity. And he understood that any political-economic structure that violates human worth must be resolutely opposed. The task we still face is to struggle to build a world where the best potential of each person can be as fully realized as possible. We will celebrate glowing moments in our history of work against the many forms of dehumanization suffered by our sisters and brothers and ourselves. And we will nurture our resilience to advance the daunting work that remains ahead.
Jim White has joyfully served as Leader for both the Essex and Riverdale/Yonkers societies. He continues as an active member of RYSEC, co-leading both Bronx Climate Justice North and Congregations for Justice and Peace in Harlem. Jim is a public interest lawyer representing psychiatric inpatients in northern Manhattan. He is married to the singer Eileen Karlson and rejoices in the friendship of his two sons and their growing families.
The New York Society for Ethical Culture is a humanist community dedicated to ethical relationships, social justice, and environmental stewardship. Entry to our 100-year-old building and meeting rooms is available for most wheelchair users with prior arrangements. Please call ahead (212-874-5210 x107) for setup of our portable system and plan to arrive one hour before start time.
