How to Stay in Love: A Workshop Performance

HOW TO STAY IN LOVE is a multimedia show exploring, well… how to stay in love. Featuring research and interviews with neuroscientists, couples counselors, psychologists, and a year’s worth of interview footage of real couples, it’s comedian Chris Duffy’s journey to understand how love works and what work it takes. Part documentary, part solo show, part guided conversation, HOW TO STAY IN LOVE will challenge and deepen your understanding of relationships.

CHRIS DUFFY (Playwright/Performer) is a standup comedian, television writer, and radio/podcast host. Most recently, he wrote for both seasons of Wyatt Cenac’s Problem Areas on HBO, executive produced by John Oliver. Chris is the creator and host of You’re the Expert, a live show and podcast where three comedians try to guess what a scientist studies all day. Chris’ shows have been featured in The Onion A.V. Club, LA Weekly, The Boston Globe, The New York Times, and The Comedy Bureau’s “100 Best Things in Comedy.” Chris is both a former fifth grade teacher and a former fifth grade student.

NICHOLAS A. COTZ (Director) has produced and directed in New York, Los Angeles, and Europe. Favorite directing projects include Gideon Irving’s My Name is Gideon at The Brick in Williamsburg, and the NY Times Critic’s Pick rogerandtom at HERE with Personal Space Theatrics. Recent producing credits with AFO include: Irving’s Songs, Space Travel, and Everything in Between at the 2016 Edinburgh Festival Fringe, winning ThreeWeeks Editors’ Award; Irving’s I’m Probably Going to Die Eventually at Rattlestick; the NY Times Critic’s Pick The Brobot Johnson Experience, by Darian Dauchan (co-produced with The Bushwick Starr); and Lizzie Vieh’s Monsoon Season both at the 2019 Edinburgh Fringe and in NYC at Rattlestick Playwright’s Theater. Cotz holds an MFA in directing from Brooklyn College and was a Manhattan Theatre Club Directing Fellow.
