At the Tenement Museum, a day doesn’t go by without a visitor saying, “Immigrants back then were different.” Or maybe it’s the claim that “back then” they were legal, learned English, or worked hard. As we strive to understand all points of view and engage productive conversation, we bring together an expert panel to examine the pervasive myths about immigrants past and present, why and how they have persisted over time, and ways to address them today.
