In Conversation with Jia Tolentino
Jia Tolentino is one of the New Yorker’s brightest new talents. In Trick Mirror, her recent collection of interconnected essays, she writes about our confusing era of malleable truth and personal and political delusion. Her subjects range from the rise of the internet, to feminism, to our culture’s endless drive towards ‘self-optimisation’, to her own generation’s obsession with extravagant weddings.
Now, as our lives have become almost entirely digital, join her to discuss how the age of the internet has changed who we are, and to reflect on our new lockdown online culture.
Tolentino’s writing is admired by writers including Zadie Smith and Rebecca Solnit, who has hailed Tolentino as the “best young essayist at work in the United States”.
