Jim Fouratt: The Beginnings of Gay Liberation

Jim Fouratt, one of the participants of the Stonewall Riots, will hold forth on gay liberation now and then. This lecturer on popular culture and identity was an early member of the Gay Liberation Front. Also, he’s written for Billboard magazine and has fought against homophobia in rock lyrics. A spokesman for gay rights for over four decades, watch his interview on The Colbert Report here. Dean of American Rock Critics, Robert Christgau, adds: “It was [Fouratt’s] taste, ideas, enthusiasm and bottom-line honesty that turned Hurrah into New York’s first and finest dance-rock palace, and every club he’s run since has had an aura about it.” Sponsored by Saga and The Simon H. Rifkind Center.
