Langston Hughes Literary Arts Festival: Understand the past, Know the Present

The Black Heritage Reference Center at the Langston Hughes Community Library and Cultural Center established its roots in 1969 as a place to learn about Black history and culture. Listening to and reading about people’s lived experience while understanding the context is necessary to raise consciousness and help us ask better questions. This year’s Literary Arts Festival underscores this.

As James Baldwin wrote in The Fire Next Time, “Know whence you came. If you know whence you came, there is really no limit to where you can go.”
