The Masters of Social Gastronomy Present: A History of Drunkenness at Kings County Distillery

The Masters of Social Gastronomy and Kings County Distillery invite you to a night of talks on getting drunk!

Soma will unravel the science behind inebriation, from the moment the alcohol hits your lips to your next-day regrets. We’ll break down “beer before liquor,” red wine’s affection for hangovers, and other boozy old wives’ tales.

For those needing a reason to knock a few back, Sarah will pull back the veil on the history of drinking games. She’ll tell tales of the Greeks flinging wine at each other in games of skill, to the American practice of “toasting,” which instigated the prohibition movement.

During storytime, Sarah will clue you in on the best drinking game ever, The Hour That God Forgot: an annual, Daylight Savings-themed Power Hour that will become a holiday tradition of your own. Soma will cover the history of that standard-bearer of game-based alcohol, the red Solo cup.

As an added bonus, Kings County will be providing tiny tastings of 3 their whiskeys. A bar will be available with cash or credit card. 21+ only.

This talk will be held at Kings County Distillery, located in the Brooklyn Navy Yard at the 299 Sands Street entrance. Entrance details will be provided the day before the event.  21+ only. This event will be a mix of seating and standing room. Doors will open at 6:30, with talks beginning around 7pm.
