The Musical Theater of Leonard Bernstein: Trouble in Tahiti and Wonderful Town

Join us as we continue to celebrate Leonard Bernstein’s 100th birthday with this yearlong, 12-lecture series exploring his extraordinary legacy as a composer of theater and concert music, conductor and teacher. This spring we focus on the musical theater of Leonard Bernstein.

Bernstein returned to the musical theater in the early 1950s for the first time since On the Townwith two works that opened only three months apart: the visionary, ahead-of-its-time one-act musical/opera hybrid Trouble in Tahiti and Wonderful Town, his greatest musical comedy collaboration with Comden and Green. This is the beginning of Bernstein’s musical theater decade.
