New York: My City | William Carroll, Deven Golden | An Artist Dialogue Series Event

One could say that reinventing himself as an artist after having given up his studio practice decades ago, William Carroll is a unique and at the same time archetypical New Yorker. He received his BFA from Pratt Institute in 1973 but stopped making art to become the Director at two New York galleries. Yet in spite of his professional success, William Carroll felt compelled to once again make art. So, in a manifestation of bravery that most of us can only marvel at, he enrolled at Queens College where he received his MFA in 2007. Since then he has produced a refined, elegant body of artwork that seamlessly merges his life and practice.

In celebration of William Carroll’s site-specific Art Wall on Third exhibition New York: My City critic and curator Deven Golden converses with the artist about the path that led him to reinvent his life and art.
