The New Yorker Festival: “Christine”

A screening of the upcoming drama, which examines the life of the nineteen-seventies TV reporter Christine Chubbuck, who committed suicide on-air. Followed by a conversation between Anthony Lane and the film’s star, Rebecca Hall.

Rebecca Hall is a film and stage actress. She has appeared in the films “The Prestige,” “Frost/Nixon,” “Iron Man 3,” and “The Gift,” among others. In 2008, she received a Golden Globe nomination for her performance in “Vicky Cristina Barcelona.” Her Broadway appearances include “Machinal,” in 2014, and “Animal,” which will première in May of 2017. In the forthcoming film “Christine,” premièring on October 14th, she plays a suicidal TV reporter in the nineteen-seventies.

Anthony Lane has been a film critic at The New Yorker since 1993. In 2001, he received a National Magazine Award for reviews and criticism. A selection of his New Yorker pieces are collected in the book “Nobody’s Perfect.”
