Teresa Mares is an Associate Professor of Anthropology at the University of Vermont. She has worked at UVM since 2011. She received her Ph.D. in anthropology from the University of Washington in 2010. Dr. Mares is the author of Life on the Other Border: Farmworkers and Food Justice in Vermont (UC Press, 2019) and numerous academic articles. Her research examines the intersections of migration and food systems.
The talk, Life on the Other Border: Farmworkers and Food Justice in Vermont will present her findings from more than 7 years of ethnographic research on food access amongst the Latinx farmworker community in Vermont, arguing for the necessity of community-based applied research and shedding light on a border region that is often misunderstood and underexamined.
