Palliative and Hospice Care Expert BJ Miller Speaking About What Really Matters at the End of Life
The New Jewish Home’s fifth annual Himan Brown Symposium on Advances in Senior Health presents Dr. BJ Miller, Clinical Professor of Medicine at the University of California San Francisco (UCSF), and attending specialist for the Symptom Management Service of the UCSF Helen Diller Comprehensive Cancer Center.
Dr. Miller is the preeminent expert on palliative and end-of-life care. Drawing on his expertise as a physician, as the former Executive Director of Zen Hospice Project, and as a patient, he advocates for a healthcare system that minimizes suffering and maximizes quality of life. Dr. Miller has lectured widely on all aspects of palliative care, as well as person-centered care, the therapeutic potential of aesthetics, and how to design for life. His 2015 TED Talk, “What Really Matters at the End of Life,” is a moving reflection of his mission to make empathic end-of-life care available to all, and has garnered nearly 6 million views to date.
After his talk Dr. Miller will speak with The New Jewish Home’s president and CEO, Audrey Weiner. The program will conclude with an audience Q&A and networking session.
