Winner of the 1983 Pulitzer Prize for Fiction, the acclaimed novel, told through the story of Celie Harris, weaves a mosaic of women of color, joined by their love for each other, the men who abuse them and the children they care for.

Celie becomes fixated on Shug Avery, a glamorous blues singer, and thus begins a lifetime of friendship and love between the two women–forming a strong bond that challenges the unrelenting structure of gender, race and sexual identity.
