PEN World Voices Festival | Poetic Duels: Sheyr Jangi

Poetic battles, called Sheyr Jangi in Afghanistan, has roots in the early medieval Central Asian Courts. For this event, we pay homage to this tradition—but with a twist. Our “deck” of poems will be based on the theme of Gender and Power, and with the audience’s help, we invite poets to duel. Participants to be announced.
