Pete Fornatale’s Rock on the Radio

In 1964, with his weekly show “Campus Caravan” on Fordham University’s WFUV, Pete Fornatale became the first person to host a rock and roll radio show in New York City. Fornatale was a pioneering creator of free-form, progressive radio in New York for nearly 5 decades – interviewing and writing about legends, including Richie Havens, Elton John, Joni Mitchell, Simon & Garfunkel, and more. The Library celebrates the acquisition of the Pete Fornatale archive with a special evening hosted by Don McGee, current host of Fornatale’s groundbreaking show, “Mixed Bag,” featuring interviews and classic segments from Fornatale broadcasts on WFUV, WNEW-FM, and K-Rock now in the collection.
