Pianist/composer Leon Gurvitch will make his Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall debut with a program of works by J.S. Bach, Gershwin, Piazzolla, and Gurvitch. The Russian-born, Germany-based artist’s own compositions feature elements of classical, jazz, world, and Eastern European folkloric influences. Gurvitch’s works, which number more than 300, have been performed internationally, including at the Kennedy Center in D.C., the Palais des Beaux-Arts in Brussels, the Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatory. Other credits include conducting the 2011 Hamburg premiere of Phillip Glass’s opera “Les Enfants Terribles,” composing the music for the film “Death Game,” teaching at the Johannes Brahms Conservatory in Hamburg, and a 2015 nomination for the Hamburg music award “Musician of the Year.” Weill Recital Hall, 154 West 57th Street; reservations at CarnegieCharge 212.247.7800.
