Pint of Science NYC Festival: What Do Physical Attraction and Drug Addiction Have in Common?

Saleem Nicola (Associate Professor at Einstein)

Why is it so easy to become addicted to drugs like prescription pain pills? Drugs like these have quite specific effects on the brain. How to Control Things with Your Mind

Tim Machado (Co-founder and CTO of Cognescent) We interact with the world through movement, and as a consequence, our brain is well-equipped to produce precise patterns of muscle activation that drive behavior. In this talk we’ll explore how the motor system is organized in the brain and how it produces simple movements. Then we’ll consider how this knowledge of the motor system informs the construction of brain machine interfaces that allow us to directly control computers with our thoughts.
