Plantasia at Brooklyn Botanic Garden
An immersive exploration of plants, music, and the reissue of Mort Garson’s groundbreaking album Plantasia ; with sonic artist and biophilic technology designer Mileece.
Join Atlas Obscura, Brooklyn Botanic Garden, and Sacred Bones as we celebrate the reissue of Mort Garson’s Plantasia , a pioneering 1970s electronic album composed for plants and the people who love them.
In the long evening hours that precede the summer solstice, join us at Brooklyn Botanic Garden to experience the groundbreaking album, Plantasia , as it was meant to be heard: surrounded by lush vegetation. During this custom listening experience, attendees are invited after hours inside the Garden’s Conservatory to listen to the full album.
We’ll be joined by celebrated composer and interactive ecology designer Mileece, who will lead us on an exploration of plant bio-communication. She’ll delve into the history of plant-sentience research, and demonstrate her own invention: a botanical feedback system that generates lightscapes and organic music by transforming the bio-electric currents of plants, trees, and even people.
The surrounding outdoor gardens will be open for exploration and enjoyment, with additional programming celebrating plants as both muse and material in the arts. Visitors can check out Sonic Succulents : Plant Sounds and Vibrations at Brooklyn Botanic Garden , an installation of living interactive sound artworks by Los Angeles–based Adrienne Adar, or join a tour of Brooklyn Botanic Garden led by a seasoned guide.
Botanically inspired cocktails, as well as dinner and other beverages, will be available for purchase. This event is part of Twilight Tuesdays at Brooklyn Botanic Garden , BBG’s new program of evening hours offered every Tuesdays during peak bloom season from April through September.
