World-renowned storyteller Laura Simms, accompanied by Steve Gorn on bamboo flute and Harry Einhorn singing devotional songs, will weave a magical oral tapestry as only she can. The evening will include extraordinary true tales of personal tragedy transformed (including from post-earthquake Haiti), passages from one of the world’s greatest epic fairytales (Eastern Europe’s “The Break of Day”), and stories from Africa, Australia, and even the back seat of a New York taxi. Laura’s narrative thread will lead us through the darkest places where we have to reach into the depths of our humanity to come back out into the light, reconnect with nature and the world of spirit, and reawaken our joy and sense of purpose.
Laura Simms, a world-renowned storyteller, award-winning author and teacher of Mindfulness/Awareness, has been practicing and teaching Shambhala Buddhist meditation for the past 35 years. A former student of such luminaries as Chogyam Trungpa, Joseph Campbell, Margaret Meade, and many indigenous storytellers internationally, her most recent book is Our Secret Territory: The Essence of Storytelling.
