In the United States each year, approximately 2,570 children as young as 13 are sentenced to juvenile life without parole. Nearly 3 million children have an incarcerated parent, the majority from communities of color. To cast light on this national issue, Trinity Wall Street will host a forum on the impact of incarceration on young people. First in a series of dialogues leading up to the January, 2016 Trinity Institute Conference, “Listen for Change: Sacred Conversations for Racial Justice,” this event will bring together nationally recognized experts and New York-based activists to clarify the issues, spark discussion and offer practical advice on how to make a difference.
Bryan Stevenson, author of Just Mercy: A Story of Justice and Redemption, will deliver the keynote address. Panel speakers will include Divine Pryor, Executive Director of the Center for NuLeadership on Urban Solutions; Judith Kaye, former Chief Judge of New York City; the Rev. Vivian Nixon, Executive Director of College and Community Fellowship; and Diana Ortiz, Associate Director of Exodus Transitional Community.
This free event will provide lunch, but RSVP is required: [email protected].
This event will be webcast and available on-demand.
