Private Tour: The New School University Center

Join the AIANY Interiors Committee for a private guided tour of the recently completed 16 story, 375,000-square-foot mixed use University Center designed by partner Roger Duffy at SOM. The building makes a striking, bold presence on three sides of its corner location with large bands of glass outlining exposed stairways flowing down three sides of the building, contrasting the bronze-toned metal of the building’s façade.

On the interior, large open spaces for collaborative learning are provided for academic and social engagement by students and faculty along with design studios, laboratories, interdisciplinary classrooms, an 800 seat auditorium, large cafeteria as well as housing for 600 students on the top nine floors. A green roof garden and café surround the library-research center’s seventh floor, which redefines the role of a university library in the digital age. The projected Gold LEED building will serve as a teaching tool for programs in architecture and design, environmental studies and sustainability management.
