Proust and Einstein: In Search of Time

Thibault Damour, Permanent Professor at the prestigious Institut des Hautes Études Scientifiques, delves on the experience of Time through the work of Marcel Proust and Albert Einstein.

As we are celebrating the Centenary of the Publication of Albert Einstein’s Theory of General Relativity, Thibault Damour will discuss the commonalities between the conception of Time suggested by relativity theories, and the idea of Time underlying Marcel Proust’s À la recherche du temps perdu. In spite of common belief, both the novelist and the physicist held the view that the flow of time is an illusion.
