Queer Space: Expanded Narratives and Practices

Gentrification, conservative public policies, and the hetero-normalization of queer culture are affecting in negative ways the lives of queer spaces. Scholars and practitioners from diverse fields are investigating the politics at the intersection of design practices and queer space in an era of rapid urban development.

Moderated by Riley Hooker, editor of Façadomy magazine, the panel aims to expand the discourse on queer culture and its relationship to domestic spaces, built and virtual environments, community activism, and new ways of exploring the city. The event has been organized by Agustin Schang and is presented in collaboration with Open House New York.

Panelist: Gabrielle Esperdy, Associate Professor of Architecture, New Jersey Institute of Technology, Lauren Johnson & Ryan Day, Founders of QSPACE; Architect Andrés Jaqué, Director of Office of Political Innovation; Designer Jaffer Kolb, Lecturer, School of Architecture, Princeton University; and Oscar Nuñez, Program Coordinator, Center for Urban Pedagogy.
