Scientist and author Ainissa Ramirez explores the science behind one of America’s favorite games, football. With a clear-eyed empirical approach—and an exuberant affection for the game—Ramirez will address topics that have long beguiled scientists and football fans alike, touching on such topics as why woodpeckers don’t get concussions and how the risk-aversion of primates is linked to decision-making in coaches. Attendees will learn how Vince Lombardi was a game theorist as well as how the facemask made the game more dangerous.

On the first Wednesday of every month, this popular after-hours series brings together inquisitive minds for an informal evening of cocktails and conversation about cutting-edge science topics with experts from the field.
