Segue Reading Series: Norman Fischer and the New York Neo-Futurists

ON SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 9TH AT 5PM, POET NORMAN FISCHER AND THE NEW YORK NEO-FUTURISTS WILL PRESENT AN HOUR-LONG EVENING OF POETRY AS PART OF THE SEGUE READING SERIES FALL LINE-UP 2024 AT ARTISTS SPACE.

THE POETS
Norman Fischer is a poet, essayist, and Soto Zen Buddhist priest. Poetry titles are Nature, There Was a Clattering As…, The Museum of Capitalism, Men in Suits, and most recently Through a Window. His Selected Poems 1980-2013 came out in 2022. He lives in Muir Beach CA with his wife Kathie, also a Zen priest. He is the founder of the Everyday Zen Foundation (wwww.everydayzen.org)

The New York Neo-Futurists are an ensemble that writes and performs work rooted in their lived experiences. In their 20th year, they are best known for high-energy late-night shows like THE INFINITE WRENCH which fuses elements of poetry, game, and performance art. Currently based in the West Village, to date they have premiered 7,100 plays.

THE CURATORS
Regie Cabico, a spoken word pioneer and current Executive Director of A Gathering of the Tribes, won the Nuyorican Poets Cafe Grand Slam. His TV credits include HBO’s Def Poetry Jam, TEDx and NPR’s Snap Judgment. His first full-length poetry collection A Rabbit in Search of a Rolex was released by Day Eight in 2023.

Drew Pisarra is the author of two short story collections, You’re Pretty Gay (2021) and Publick Spanking (1996), two sonnet collections, Infinity Standing Up (2019) and Periodic Boyfriends (2023); and one poetry collection without any sonnets at all, Fassbinder: His Movies, My Poems (2024). 

A Gathering of Tribes – founded in 1991 by blind poet, playwright, and former professor Steve Cannon (1935–2019) – is a non-profit arts organization based in New York City that provides a platform for diverse, traditionally underrepresented artists and writers. amplifying the emerging and established revolutionary voices of our time.

The Segue Foundation is an internationally-renowned arts organization based in New York City with a history of commitment to innovative literature, film, and dance. Segue sponsors the experimental Segue Reading Series, a legendary series that has run continuously in New York City for over 40 years.

The Segue Reading Series for Fall 2024 continues every Saturday through Nov. 23 at Artists Space (11 Cortlandt Alley, New York, NY, 10013). Tickets are $5 at the door.
