Speaking of Science: Update on Evolution

Though there are those who deny the validity of the most important theory in the biological sciences, there are also those who continue to study the theory of evolution and find new evidence for it and new discoveries through it. How have things changed since Darwin proposed its original version more than 150 years ago? We’ll talk about the evolution of evolutionary theory, the nature of scientific controversies, and the difference between real science and creationist pseudoscience.

Massimo Pigliucci has a PhD in Evolutionary Biology from the University of Connecticut and a PhD in Philosophy from the University of Tennessee. He is the K.D. Irani Professor of Philosophy at City College of New York. His research includes the philosophy of biology, the relationship between science and philosophy, and the nature of pseudoscience. He has been elected fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science.

The New York Society for Ethical Culture is a humanist community dedicated to ethical relationships, social justice, and environmental stewardship.
