In late February through May 2018, the Asia Society will feature the exhibition, “Unknown Tibet: The Tucci Expeditions and Buddhist Painting.” Dr. Adriana Proser will introduce the story of Giuseppe Tucci and the eight major expeditions he made to Tibet between 1926 and 1948. Dr. Proser’s presentation will include some of the extraordinary paintings collected by Giuseppe Tucci, and expedition photographs shot by his expedition photographers.
This exhibition, which will be at the Asia Society (just down the block from The Explorers Club headquarters), will feature an extraordinary group of works from the National Museum of Oriental Art (MNAO), Rome, including major paintings collected by Giuseppe Tucci during his expeditions to Tibet and now in the collection of the MNAO. The MNAO paintings have only recently been restored as a group and this exhibition provides the first opportunity for scholars and the general public to see these historically important and stunningly beautiful works in the United States.
Join us for this early glimpse into the geographical and spiritual journeys of one of the 20th century’s greatest explorers, and a sneak peek at what will be shown of this incredible exhibit starting in February of 2018.
