We’ve all heard about the Ancient Greeks. Their influence on the modern Western world is formidable; we are surrounded by references to Greek government, art, literature, mythology, philosophy, science… Yet for all our celebration of the Greeks and their achievements, there is one aspect of their culture that rarely gets mentioned in modern times: what they ate.
Let’s go back to the days of Classical Greece: a time when meals could be liquid, cheese went with seafood and the most fearsome warriors were raised on something called “black stew.”
In this class, we’ll learn about Ancient Greek food and the customs, culture and lore that surrounded it. We’ll break down the world’s first health diets and the recipe with the longest name ever written. We’ll also taste some ancient delicacies, including the great-great-great grandfather of pizza.
This class is a general overview of Classical Greek food and food culture. No prior knowledge of the Ancient Greeks required!
