JOIN THE LEARNING THE EARTH WITH ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE + PHYSICS (LEAP) CENTER AT COLUMBIA FOR A SEMINAR ON CLIMATE DATA SCIENCE
Dr. Axel Seifert is a senior scientist at the Deutscher Wetterdienst (DWD), Germany’s national meteorological service, based in Offenbach. His research primarily focuses on cloud microphysics, numerical weather prediction, and data assimilation. Dr. Seifert has contributed extensively to the field of atmospheric sciences. Notably, he co-authored a study on aerosol–cloud–radiation interactions during Saharan dust episodes, addressing the complexities of “the dusty cirrus puzzle.” Additionally, he has explored the integration of machine learning techniques into cloud modeling, as evidenced by his work on an ML-based P3-like multimodal two-moment ice microphysics scheme in the ICON model.
For those interested in his latest insights, Dr. Seifert is scheduled to deliver the Spring 2025 Lecture in Climate Data Science. This hybrid event will be accessible both in-person and via Zoom.
