I Stand for Women’s Rights / Women in War and Peace

Kim Barker was the South Asia bureau chief for the Chicago Tribune from 2004 to 2009, based in New Delhi and Islamabad. Her book about those years,The Taliban Shuffle: Strange Days in Afghanistan and Pakistan, is a dark comedic take on her experiences. An expert from the frontlines, filmmaker Gini Reticker’s latest documentary, Women, War & Peace, focuses on the perils and roles of women in war zones. Critically-acclaimed author Joydeep Roy-Bhattacharya’s novel, The Watch, features a modern-day Antigone in a conversation about the strategic role of women in conflict and peacebuilding throughout the world. Their conversation will be moderated by award-winning journalist Lee Woodruff, author of the bestselling book In an Instant, which documents her family’s road to recovery after the roadside bombing of her husband while reporting from Iraq.
