‘Twas The Night Before Christmas Reading and Procession

night before christmasIn 1822, as a Christmas present for his six children, Clement C. Moore wrote the poem that became a classic for all to cherish. Come hear a reading of ‘Twas The Night Before Christmas. A special musical prelude and slide show begins at 3:30pm.

The reading will be performed by the Rev. Dr. James H. Cooper, the 17th Rector of Trinity Wall Street, which includes Trinity Church and St. Paul’s Chapel in Lower Manhattan. Dr. Cooper is retiring in 2015, so this will be the last time he attends this event as the Rector of Trinity. He and his wife Tay have attended the reading every year since 2004.

After the reading, there will be a lantern procession to Trinity Cemetery and Mausoleum, where a wreath will be laid at the gravesite of Clement Clarke Moore (1779-1863), the son of Dr. Benjamin Moore, the sixth rector of Trinity Parish.

Location: Church of the Intercession, Broadway at West 155th Street

Free and open to the public. The Church of the Intercession is wheelchair accessible via the cemetery gate on 155th Street.
