THE FEMINIST PRESS JOINS MONTEZ PRESS AT MATHEW GALLERY FOR A ONE-NIGHT TRIBUTE TO VIRGINIE DESPENTES
One week after Bastille Day, the Feminist Press hosts “Viva Virginie: A Bye Bye Blondie Launch Party” to celebrate the revolutionary French author Virginie Despentes and the press’s forthcoming translation of the dark romantic comedy. Friends of Feminist Press Montez Press has partnered with Mathew Gallery and invited the press to host a free community event at the Chinatown art gallery.
The night will feature feminist writers and Despentes fans Blair Beusman, Ruth Curry, Lauren Oyler, and Nina Sparling. They will each read a short excerpt from the Virginie canon and discuss their own experiences with and appreciation of the iconic. Artist and activist Molly Crabapple’s original artwork of Despentes books covers will be on display during the event. The reading will be followed by a reception with wine and snacks. All Feminist Press translations of Despentes’ books be on sale, including our new limited-edition book bundle.
