Food has a special place in our hearts as the scent and taste of certain dishes make us nostalgic about our homes, families, and countries of origin. As people immigrate to foreign countries, food can serve as an important connector for new relationships in foreign lands and a bridge for cultural understanding. Preparing and sharing food that we cherish and enjoy, therefore, goes beyond our need of survival. At a time when people are sheltering at home due to the pandemic, this can be a unique opportunity for self-reflection, introspection of identities, and culinary experiments. Chef Jenny Dorsey has created environments and food for such processes and has pushed its boundaries. Through her award-nominated series Asian in America, she combines food, drink, virtual reality, and poetry to examine the trials and tribulations of the Asian American identity in a 6-course and 3-cocktail dining experience. What is it about food that can have a direct connection to our emotions? How can food change the world one artsy bite at a time?
As part of Asia Society’s Asian in America Series, join innovative Asian American Renaissance woman Jenny Dorsey in a conversation with Asia Society’s Yoshie Ito.
