World Toilet Day: Flush Screening

In 2013, the United Nations officially declared Nov. 19 as World Toilet Day – an opportunity to honor the importance of effective sanitation, and raise awareness for the 40% of the world living without a safe, dignified place to “go.” This year, we’re inviting citizens all over the world to lift the lid and #FollowTheFlush.

In honor of World Toilet Day, Caveat screens Flush. Director Karina Mangu-Ward had a hunch that the unprecedented damage from Superstorm Sandy, the drought out West, and the future of our food supply have a lot to do with how we flush. So she gives herself a challenge: follow one flush from beginning to end. Flush is the story of everything that happens next, and the cultural, political, and corporate forces shaping the way we deal with bodily waste in America today.

Schedule
2-3pm: Micro Toilet Conference, featuring a welcome from Jack Sim, World Toilet Day founder and keynote speaker at this year’s World Toilet Summit. Learn more about local issues and shmooze with representatives from NYC H20, Faiths for Safe Water, Hudson Riverkeeper, Peggy Lillis Foundation and more, plus product giveaways from Squatty Potty.
3-4pm: New York City premiere screening of Flush
4-5pm: Livestreamed panel featuring director Karina Mangu-Ward
