The Architectural Legacy of Cross & Cross Featured in Landmarks Lecture

talks new york architectureArchitectural historian and author Anne Walker of Peter Pennoyer Architects will discuss New York Transformed: The Architecture of Cross & Cross at The General Society Library. Ms. Walker is the author of many books on twentieth-century architecture, which includes her book on Cross & Cross, a collaboration with Peter Pennoyer. The architects Cross & Cross shaped the streetscape and skyline of New York City in the 1920s and 1930s. Their buildings included Upper East Side townhouses and apartment buildings, the RCA Victor Building and Tiffany’s flagship store on 57th Street. Ms. Walker will examine the legacy of Cross & Cross.

Ms. Walker holds a master’s degree in historic preservation from Columbia University. In 2000, she joined the firm of Peter Pennoyer Architects and has since collaborated with Peter Pennoyer on several books on the history of twentieth-century American architecture, including  The Architecture of Delano & Aldrich, The Architecture of Warren & Wetmore, The Architecture of Grosvenor Atterbury, and New York Transformed: The Architecture of Cross & Cross. She is the author of Peter Pennoyer Architects: Apartments, Townhouses and Country Houses, and co-author of The Ford Plantation Architectural Pattern Book with Donald M. Rattner, and The Finest Rooms in America with Thomas Jayne.  Ms. Walker is an adjunct professor at New York University and has appeared as a commentator in National Geographic’s television series “American Mansion.” More information on Peter Pennoyer Architects can be found at www.ppapc.com

The Landmarks Lectures are curated by Lisa Easton, a partner in the New York City based architecture and historic preservation firm, Easton Architects.
