Children in Gold: The Refugee Crisis

According to the United Nations refugee agency, more than one million refugees and migrants reached Europe by sea in 2015. More than 80% of the migrants arrived in Greece, with the majority landing on Lesbos Island.

Filmmaker Irina Patkanian and photographer/cinematographer Gus Ford spent the fall of 2015 on Lesbos, filming and photographing the experience of migrants fleeing from war, poverty and depravation. The images, which put a human face on the crisis, are both powerful and haunting.
