A Conversation with Law Professor and “Foreign Policy” Columnist Rosa Brooks

When the pundit Rosa Brooks criticizes the Obama administration, she is speaking from personal experience: Brooks spent two years in the president’s first term as counselor to the undersecretary of defense for policy. In her column in foreignpolicy.com, Brooks frequently accuses the administration of conducting a feckless foreign policy guided more by politics than by strategy and often led by young ex-campaign staffers with little real knowledge of the world.

Brooks also speaks with the authority of a legal scholar: At Georgetown University she teaches classes in constitutional and international law, as well as failed states and the law of atrocities.

Journalist James Traub will interview Brooks. The format of the event will be as follows:

6:00PM – Doors open
6:15PM-7:15PM – Television taping of conversation (please arrive on time)
7:15PM-7:45PM – Reception

Traub writes a column for Foreign Policy‘s website entitled “Terms of Engagement” and writes, as well, for Foreign Policy magazine. He has worked as a staff writer for The New Yorker and a contributing writer to The New York Times Magazine, reporting widely from Africa and the Middle East. He is the author of five books, and is currently writing a biography of John Quincy Adams.
